Got away on a flyer, so off down Butter bee again, hoping Jack would be out & about
No luck there, but Rails aplenty
The first hard frost of year resulting in constant activity from several birds
Spent a while watching them, comical to see them slipping, tripping & crashing through the ice.
Easily one of my favourites to spend time with.
Butterby SSSI, Croxdale Estate, Co.Durham.

Best time to see them at the Rising Sun when the ice sets in.Great views last year of 4 in ditches. What strikes me about then is the way they look when going up and down the inclines to the ditches.
ReplyDeleteVery entertaining little birds Johnny.
ReplyDeleteDont know about you, but the last couple of winters have certainly knocked some of our resident birds back - eg ive only had 2 records at Rainton since the Spring !
Cheers.
