Im none the wiser despite reading up....
But have now developed a new policy of assigning all birds i cannot imediately identify into an all encompassing hybrid catagory...... ;-)
This last week or so has seen me add 3 megas to this new list :-
i) Hybrid intersex half-bred Pheasant / Black Grouse
ii) Hybrid swarm Icelandic Kulmins Gull
ii) Hybrid Scandinavian Water Pipit
Three ticks, as EASY as that !
I have a few more "Pipit" pics i took, and have to say the image Mr Johnson has chosen to put out into the public domain ( on the Bird Forum, Durham Turding Photo gallery) , isn't a very good representation of what he, myself & Gary saw at very close range, regardless of "what it is"- a nice sharp full frame image, but none of the colours we could clearly see in the field.

Note to self - Next time take more and better photos, instead of spending time getting news out to all "the
daft, out of breath and sweat stained twitchers".
