Birdwatching in & around Houghton-le-Spring, Sunderland, County Durham.

Lots of passerines, particularly thrushes & finches heading South West over the last few days, including multiples of Crossbill & Bullfinch noted going over even at home.

Viewing from a local hill-top my list of visible migrants continued with several species appearing from the north-east including Goosander, Swallow, 2Common Buzzards, male Goshawk, Tree Sparrow, 3 more Barnacles, Grey Wagtail & Starling.

Nobody seems to be losing any sleep over a local "mystery Shrike ssp" which slipped through the net at Herrington this weekend........ as we all know this year its our turn for a Rough-legged Buzzard

5 Buzzards
